Should you ask a teacher how many hours a week they work, it’ll be a complicated answer. If you teach, you know. I currently work as a lectrice d’anglais in France. Last semester I taught about 15 hours a week but usually ended up clocking the same hours as one would with a “regular” job. Which left a lot less time during the day to design that I’d imagined before I started. Nevertheless, I love design. So, I found time — hence the night time design vibes.
And lately, I’ve taken to designing print work for events I (and the other lectors) put on for my students.
Design is exciting / fun / hard / rewarding / long / fast / soothing / perplexing and, at this point, an intrinsic part of who I am. There are always better designers, other ways to pursue an idea or a brief, techniques to experiment with, ideas new to give visual form, progress to make, ways of seeing to embrace, and nights to spend working away at it all.
